2Northdown

London, N1

The first custom-built comedy venue to open in London for 20 years, 2Northdown – named after its address in Somers Town – features flexible, hireable spaces and a charismatic street presence.
An innovative and flexible design creates a successful multi-functional space used for rehearsals, performances and as a venue for private hire

Since its opening in July 2017, this 100-seat multi-purpose venue has fast become an important destination for comedy artists. Our ultra-flexible design for the three-storey former light industrial building suits the venue to diverse private hire uses as well as for public performance. Full-height doors open onto hard landscaping at the front of the venue, effectively extending the floor space, creating a strong street presence and allowing the venue to offer drinking outdoors. The ground floor contains reception and flexible performance and rehearsal spaces, with office space on the first and second floors.

To ensure the ground floor can be used outside performance times, we created a bespoke mobile bar joinery unit. Complete with its own drainage, beer taps and hand basin, the bar is configured into three separate elements that mean the individual pieces can fit perfectly within the stage box. Like all aspects of the project, including the sound and lighting gantry, the bar can be assembled and used by volunteers unfamiliar with the venue.
