St. John the Baptist Church

Slough

Foreword
A new church and community complex on Slough’s greenbelt creates a bold civic landmark and provides new high-quality housing.

We are designing and delivering a new-build church, community hall and housing across two Slough sites – including on greenbelt land. The church and hall complex will create a bold new landmark and civic destination for the community.

The proposals form part of a strategy by The Parochial Church Council of St. John and St. Michael to replace a 1930s prefabricated church and hall building. The project will combine the two congregations of St. John and nearby St. Michael in a new sustainable, adaptable and contemporary facility that will become a socially and visually enhancing local asset.

The new buildings feature flexible lobbies, gardens and main halls, creating a range of programmable spaces to suit different uses. The church will accommodate up to 100 people in an inspiring space accessibly designed to welcome all comers as part of the church’s inclusive ethos.

Our proposal also includes a vicarage and two houses on the St. John site, along with further housing on the St. Michael site. We advanced an initiative to use the revenue from the market-sale homes to fund the cost of the new-build church and community centre.
